Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We understand that this month can be particularly difficult for those who have faced breast cancer or supported a loved on through their breast cancer journey. Whether you’re currently undergoing treatment, in remission, or supporting someone, we want you to know you’re not alone. We are here to provide you with the support you need.

Not Just for Women

Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in the UK, with around 55,000 women diagnosed each year. However, it’s crucial to remember that breast cancer also affects men, though it is much rarer, with approximately 400 cases annually. Men, just like women, need to be vigilant about changes in their breasts. Symptoms such as lumps, swelling, or dimpling of the skin can all be signs of breast cancer and should be discussed with a doctor. Early detection is key. The investigations and treatments are the same for men and women, and we’re here to support anyone, regardless of gender, going through this challenging time.

Exercise for Prevention and Recovery

Regular physical activity has been proven to reduce the risk of breast cancer, improve survival rates, and lower the chance of recurrence. How does it work? Exercise helps maintain a healthy weight, reduces the levels of cancer-promoting hormones like oestrogen and insulin, and strengthens the immune system. There’s no set amount of exercise that guarantees reduced risk, but more is certainly better than less. Moderate activities such as yoga, brisk walking, and cycling can all contribute to lowering the risk.
We offer a weekly yoga class and a walking group that meets in Sutton Park, welcoming all abilities. These activities will boost your physical health and your emotional well-being. Please get in touch if you would like more information.

Complementary Therapies and Bra Fitting Service

We offer a range of complementary therapies designed to help you manage the physical and emotional effects of cancer treatment. From reflexology to massage, our therapies are tailored to provide holistic care, focusing on your mind, body, and spirit. We believe in a supportive approach that complements hospital treatments.
For women who have undergone a lumpectomy or mastectomy, we provide a specialist bra-fitting service. Run by the highly experienced Alison, who has over 17 years of bra fitting expertise and five years of prosthesis knowledge, this service ensures that every woman feels comfortable and confident in her post-surgery bra. Alison’s warmth and professionalism have made her a favourite among our clients. One such client, Diana, shared her experience: “Alison was so kind, knowledgeable, and caring. The fit was perfect and has improved my self-confidence and self-esteem so much.” Bra fitting is on the first and third Friday morning of every month, get in touch if you would like to make an appointment.
