On April 23rd 2022 The Cancer Support Centre celebrated 21 years of supporting adults affected by cancer in Sutton Coldfield and the West Midlands. The Birthday Celebration were held in the grounds of the Centre in Lindridge Road.
Jackie Price Centre Manager said, ‘It was a lovely day albeit very windy, but that did not stop people attending and having a great day.’
The Mayor of Sutton Coldfield Councillor Terry Wood opened the event at 11am and spent time chatting to all the stall holders and supporters there, posing for photos and learning about the different ways clients are supported.
Everyone was welcome to come and see the centre, share a cream tea, visit the stalls and take part in the Raffle and Tombola but more importantly see, and experience in some small way what we are able to share with our clients to help them feel supported. There were short relaxation sessions, opportunity to learn some tips and tools to manage challenging circumstances, and even have some therapy taster sessions 1:1 with our therapists.
Jackie said, ‘We were really keen to give the opportunity for people to actually experience some of the things we do and share with our clients to support them, and the feedback we have had has been brilliant’
For the children there was an Easter Trail around the grounds to win a goodie bag. For the adults a wide variety of stalls including the groups and charities we work with at the Centre like Breast Friends Sutton, Prostate Cancer Sutton Coldfield, Community Breast Care, MacMillan CAB; as well as those who offer professional services to help our clients, such as financial management, will writing and inheritance tax.
Jackie said, ‘We had such a brilliant turn out and it was lovely to have the Centre busy with people. It has been a really hard time over the past two years and it was lovely to welcome people back to celebrate with us.
It was very much a community event bringing people together and really couldn’t have happened without our fantastic volunteers who came to help, and some very special local businesses who sponsored the event to cover our costs and donate the goodies we needed. This meant we could focus on celebrating and sharing rather than charging for everything ! Despite that, we still managed to raise £2000 and that figure is still rising‘
