Complementary Therapies for Cancer Patients and Caregivers

Maintaining your wellbeing after you receive a cancer diagnosis and through any treatment is really important. Complementary therapies can support you and anyone that is caring for you and they will work alongside any medical interventions.
We believe in a holistic approach which supports and focuses on your mind, body and spirit, whilst ensuring that you feel part of our supportive community.
All of our clients have an initial meeting with a client advocate who will help them to chose the most suitable therapies or groups. Wherever you are in your treatment journey, our aim is to ensure that you will be the best you can be today, tomorrow and moving forward.
If you have been affected by cancer, directly or indirectly, then we are here to walk that journey with you. It’s your journey, but you don’t have to walk it alone.
Here is a brief summary of some of the complementary therapies that our experienced therapists offer.
More Detailed Information Here
1. Acupuncture and Auricular (ear) acupuncture:
Acupuncture works by stimulating nerves, which releases endorphins and relieves pain. Acupuncture also releases serotonin, which increases our feelings of wellbeing.
Acupuncture can help with sickness, breathlessness, dry mouth, hot flushes and relaxation.
Auricular (ear) acupuncture works in the same was as traditional acupuncture only using the ears.
2. Aromatherapy and Aroma Rainbow:
If you are feeling stressed or tired, which is normal when you are having treatment for cancer, then aromatherapy will help to lift your mood and help you to feel calmer. Aromatherapy can relax your muscles, enhance your circulation, reduce the perception of pain, help eliminate toxins and give that ‘feel good’ factor.
Aroma Rainbow is a simple yet powerful self-help therapy that combines all our sensory systems together to create the reality of our choice. The use of beautiful colours and exquisite aromas triggers vibrations of empowerment, self-confidence and joy.
3. Reflexology:
Reflexology is a therapeutic foot massage technique based on the principle that specific points on the feet correspond to organs and systems in the body. It can promote deep relaxation, release tension, relieve pain, and improve sleep, offering comfort and support to cancer patients.
4. Indian Head Massage:
Indian Head Massage is a therapeutic technique that focuses on massaging the scalp, neck, shoulders, and upper arms to relieve tension, reduce stress, and stimulate hair and scalp health. It offers a moment of relaxation and rejuvenation amidst the challenges of cancer treatment.
5. Reiki:

6. Homeopathy:
Homeopathy is a holistic system of medicine that uses highly diluted substances to stimulate the body’s natural healing process. It can support cancer patients on mental, emotional, and physical levels, boosting immunity, and aiding in recovery before, during, and after treatment.
7. Emmett Technique:
The Emmett Technique is a gentle and effective muscle release therapy that addresses pain, improves body movement, and restores emotional well-being. It offers relief from muscular tension and discomfort, promoting a sense of ease and relaxation.
8. Scar Tissue Release:
Scar Tissue Release Therapy is a gentle and effective treatment that can be beneficial for people living with cancer. It helps to break down adhesions and fibrous tissue, reducing the appearance of scars and promoting increased flexibility and mobility. This supports the body’s natural healing process, reduces pain and can also help with releasing emotions relating to the surgery.
9. Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT):
EFT is a technique that helps release emotional blocks and stress from the body’s energy system by tapping on specific points. It can support cancer patients in managing emotions such as stress, anxiety, and fear, empowering them to cope with the challenges of diagnosis and treatment.

Counselling provides a supportive space for cancer patients and caregivers to explore their emotions, address stress and anxiety, and make positive changes in their lives. It offers a non-judgmental environment where individuals can express themselves freely and receive guidance and support.
11. Talking Therapies:
Talking therapies aim to empower you to help yourself by giving you the tools you need to move forward. Here are a few of the therapies that we use:
- Hypnosis – a deeply relaxed state, much like daydreaming, where positive suggestions can be gently introduced to the subconscious mind. You remain fully in control at all times, many people find it helpful for reducing anxiety, breaking negative thought patterns, and restoring calm.
- Creative Visualisation – this powerful technique helps transform negative thinking into a more positive mindset. By using all your senses, you can imagine the future you want to move towards. It works best with regular practice and belief in the process. Top athletes use this technique to help them perform at their best.
- Mindfulness & Meditation – Mindfulness is the practice of paying attention to the present moment, without judgement. It can help reduce stress, anxiety, and feelings of overwhelm. Meditation, which can include breath work and visualisation, encourages stillness and calm. Both practices can improve emotional wellbeing and can be helpful after a cancer diagnosis.
We provide a comprehensive range of complementary therapies to support the diverse needs of people living with cancer and caregivers. Each therapy offers unique benefits that contribute to overall wellbeing, nurturing your mind, body and spirit.
