Group sessions

Everything we do has to fit into at least 2 of our four main pillars of support:

Mind

Supporting your mental and emotional wellbeing is a key part of what we do. From counselling to relaxation groups to a listening ear and complementary therapies that boost your wellbeing, we’re here to help you feel less overwhelmed and more in control.

Looking after your mind is not a luxury – it’s an essential part of living with the impacts of cancer. When your thoughts feel calmer, everything else becomes a little easier to manage.

Body

Cancer and cancer treatments can take a real toll on the body. Fatigue, pain, changes in appetite, sleep disturbances, and physical side effects can all impact your quality of life. That’s why supporting your physical wellbeing is so important.

We offer a range of complementary therapies and groups designed to help you care for your body, from gentle exercise groups and nutrition advice to massage, reflexology and other therapies. These can help ease side effects, reduce pain, improve your energy levels and boost your overall sense of wellbeing

Spirit

A cancer diagnosis can leave you questioning your very sense of self. Some of our clients report that they feel this particularly strongly once cancer treatment is over and they are expected to return to ‘normal life’, a sense of ‘what now?’.

Nurturing the spirit is a vital part of living with cancer.

We are here to support you to find a sense of peace and strength. Our complementary therapies can help you find moments of calm and our groups offer a range of mindful activities to give you a break from anything that is on your mind.

We don’t have all the answers, but we can offer our support in a calm and welcoming space.

Taking care of your spirit is just as important as taking care of your body.

Community

A cancer diagnosis can feel incredibly isolating. You might feel that no one quite understands what you’re going through or that you’re carrying the weight of it all by yourself.

Our clients sometimes tell us that they have amazing families and friends, but they still feel isolated, partly because they see the worry in their loved one’s eyes and don’t want to add to that by sharing their true feelings.

That’s why community is so important.

Whether it’s sharing a cup of tea at the Centre, attending a support group, or taking part in an activity in quiet companionship with others who get it, there’s something about being together that feels supportive.

You don’t have to explain. You don’t have to put on a brave face. You can bring your real self and your true feelings.

We offer a selection of groups and activities

Watercolour painting class with Debbie

Every Friday 9.30am – 12.30pm. Fun, easy going and suitable for all abilities, even those who have never painted before. For a £5 per class charge all paints and materials will be provided. Each week there will be a theme, and you will be shown how to create a painting.

The focus is very much on an enjoyable, creative and relaxing morning. There are absolutely no expectations of artistic genius!

Here’s some feedback that we’ve had about this new group so far:

“Really enjoyed the art class, Debbie was a great teacher. Have learnt some new techniques to use at home, I would definitely encourage anyone to try an art class.”

“It was my first time attending an art class and the first time I’ve ever used watercolour paints. I was a bit nervous but the teacher Debbie is so lovely and put me at ease. She’s a great teacher and I came away from the class with a fairly decent painting. I would definitely recommend it to others.”

You really don’t need to be able to draw or paint to enjoy this group. It’s all about expressing yourself, possibly taking your mind off things, and enjoying the process of creating something.

This is what they have done recently …

Our Tree of Hope 🌳

Next time you visit the Centre, keep an eye out for a very special new addition — our beautiful Tree of Hope, lovingly created by our talented Art Group.

The tree is made from paper, with leaves, butterflies, birds and other colourful pieces of artwork, each carrying a message of hope and support. These messages are there for anyone who needs one – please take one as a memento. You’ll find the tree in our corridor.

The tree is a symbol of the friendship, care, fun and laughter that has grown from the Art Group doing something creative together each week. It’s their way of sharing that warmth and kindness with others who might be struggling or need support.

We are so grateful to our Art Group for the time, effort and thought they’ve poured into this project.
